David Wolfe and David Jubb’s Electrolyte Lemonade
Hi everybody!
One of the great drinks I have been loving and making for some time now…is what is known as “Jubb’s Electrolyte Lemonade”.
It was developed by David Jubb, who is a noted live foodist, neuro-physiologist, and cytologist, based in New York City.
It’s a wonderful drink for many reasons:
- it’s easy to prepare!
- it’s very very tasty
- it’s quite easy (for most) to digest
- it’s cleansing to the liver and gallbladder (because of the sea salt and the lemons)
The original recipe from David Jubb is:
3 organic lemons, yellow skin removed, white pith intact
3 tablespoons organic extra virgin coconut oil
1 organic pear or apple, cored
1 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
6 cups amazing fresh spring water
6 tablespoons raw honey, maple syrup, or liquid stevia
Blend all ingredients together–and enjoy!
Now, the Celtic Sea Salt (that brand) is very important, as it has tons and tons of minerals and doesn’t contain many of the toxins of “heated” kiln-dried salts. The coconut oil and the lemons also boost one’s immune system. The pectins in the apple or pear help clear and cleanse the liver and gallbladder as well.
When I make this recipe, I add 1-2 frozen ripe organic bananas, and that just seems to make the whole thing come together beautifully.
At David Jubb’s former juice/smoothie bar and healing center in New York City, he would often use a brazil nut milk base, rather than simply water. Very tasty!
This drink will turn out completely white in color. If you would like to to look more yellow (like a traditional lemonade), believe it or not, goji berries will do the trick. Add 1-2 Tablespoons of goji berries to this smoothie, and perhaps a pink of turmeric. The smoothie will turn a lovely yellowing/pinkish color–very appetizing!
